Creating a space for people to think well, for and as themselves, and with the best and most current information available, is key to all the teaching and facilitation that I offer to leaders, other practitioners, teams and groups. Currently, as well as teaching the Thinking Environment courses listed below, my offer also includes leadership training through Working Titles Leadership and workshops to enable you to contemplate, proactively design and generatively live your Third Act of life.
As a licensed Thinking Environment® teacher and consultant, I offer Foundation, Thinking Partnership, Diversity and Mentoring courses, both online, and in person in London and also in the beautiful village of Cadaques in Catalonia in Spain.
The Time to Think Foundation Course, Online Next date early in 2025, please contact for details.
This is the course for you if you would like to:
facilitate workshops where every voice is heard, and everyone’s thinking is valued.
chair meetings that build and strengthen relationships and enable great ideas to be honed into clear and sustainable action.
be a leader who can create the conditions to unlock the full potential of their team and fostering a culture of creativity and courage.
Back in 2012, I was a participant on a Thinking Environment Foundation course. It was a revelation. It taught me the power of thinking without interruptions, the magic of generative attention, and how to move forward ideas that had been stuck in the back of my mind for far too long. In just 5 minutes of thinking in pairs, I broke through months of procrastination.
Taking this course, and going on afterwards to qualify as a Time to Think Facilitator, gave me structures that I've used repeatedly, in the corporate, public and third sectors, enabling individuals and teams to solve problems autonomously yet collaboratively by leveraging the collective wisdom of the group. It dramatically improved my approach to presentations, emphasising true engagement and co-thinking with my audience.
What you will learn and practice
The 2-day Foundation course will introduce the Ten Components of a Thinking Environment® and explore how to embody these for ourselves and provide them for others. We will explore how to use Thinking Pairs, Dialogue, and Rounds, to build a Thinking Environment.
We will explore how these ‘building blocks’ can be used creatively in the context of meetings and workshops along with the Time to Think Council process.
Together we will experience how discussions, facilitation and presentations can be enlivened to become safer, more spacious and energising experiences. You will also see one thinking partnership demonstration, to introduce you to the powerful effect that finding and removing untrue limiting assumptions lived as true, can have on individuals and teams.
This course is a pre-requisite to the Facilitator Qualifying Course.
Evaluation feedback from participants on previous Foundation Courses:
This course is sensational. For me it has been revelatory and life changing. I have experienced a breakthrough in both a personal and professional sense. I have always found group meetings to be at times challenging. I now understand that the structure of the meeting is what elevates the meeting into a true meeting of minds and enables a group of people to do their best thinking. Carolyn is a phenomenal trainer. Rarely have I felt so held, appreciated and understood. I am in awe of Carolyn’s presence, pace, facilitation skills and ability to see deeply into people. I cannot put into words how much I appreciate the experience of this 2 day training. I have read Time to Think and this Foundation training feels like it has unlocked something deep inside that is allowing me to be my true authentic self and feel free of many long held self limiting beliefs. [Zelah Riley - Development Coach]
I can honestly say this has been one of the best remote training experiences I’ve ever had. I was fully engaged from start to finish, which is rare for me in virtual settings. The clear instructions and advance notice of the schedule were fantastic—they really helped me plan my day and stay focused. While being together in a physical room would have been amazing, I was thrilled at how we all connected so naturally via Zoom. It was truly a memorable experience! Carolyn’s depth of knowledge as a facilitator is impressive. She shares information so naturally and with such calmness, creating an atmosphere where everyone feels safe to participate and share their ideas without any fear of judgment. I can’t recommend Carolyn enough—I feel incredibly lucky to have had the chance to learn from her. [Maria Fernanda Olmos Lares, Global Digital Integration Principal at Unispace].
I thoroughly enjoyed taking the Time To Think Foundation Course with Carolyn and found it a thought-provoking experience. Carolyn is an incredibly warm and skilled facilitator who conveys complex information with brilliant clarity and ease. As someone who is not a coach and had not used Thinking Environment principles before taking the course, I felt very supported in my learning and appreciated Carolyn’s guidance on how to apply the course principles to my own clients, workshops and training sessions. [Julia Glotz, writer and communications consultant]
Carolyn has an engaging, thoughtful, curious and warm presence and is a wonderful facilitator! She carefully curates your time and attention as a participant and enables every group member to understand, speak about, experience, and practice the Time to Think concepts fully. I am leaving this course with new knowledge, better understanding and a reinvigorated interest in the Time to Think concepts and how to apply them in my work. [Dr Suzanne Triggs, Social Worker, Coach and Trainer].
”to see the different elements come together and like fine strands intertwine to form a strong liberating discipline, where great thinking for the individual is possible. So much of our world today is intruded upon with distraction and disruption; to have a space to think fully, with the luxury and privilege of the presence of another human being – beautiful to both experience and witness it happening”. [Marie Lord, Developmental Executive Coach & Supervisor]
“Carolyn brings a calm and soothing presence, never hurried, and through this facilitates the creation of boundless space and deep thinking. By expert knowledge of the Thinking Environment, Carolyn is able to steer the group, kindly, to become thinking environments in their own right.” [Cecilie, Coach]

I retained a lot of information, had a chance to ask questions, and practice skills that Carolyn taught in a patient and considerate way. I would welcome any future opportunities to learn from or work with Carolyn.
“Carolyn is an excellent facilitator who brings warmth, rigour, and empathy to the groups she works with. I can say that as this is my third successful training experience with Carolyn. Bespoke courses
The Diversity Course
If we want to think for ourselves, we need to think as ourselves. We need to find confidence in all our identities. This requires us to explore the untrue assumptions that the world makes about these identities and to remove them with incisive questions. This course, which can take place through one or more bespoke workshops, teaches the skills needed to create a space within which people will deepen their understanding and valuing of difference, and engage with each other with greater appreciation and respect.
There are options to work online or to travel to Cadaques in Catalonia for in person programmes. Please contact me if you would like to have an exploratory discussion about commissioning or participating in any of these courses.
